They got suckered. Period. The stupidity was extreme on the side of Extreme Home Makeovers. Ratings RULE!!! Let (U.S.) help the poor black people syndrome. It's a disease in the U.S. We don't need your good deeds. The Native Indians proved that. As far as losing the house they are not the only ones. Others have gone into foreclosure in areas across the country, across color lines. Stupidity has no color nor a particular educational level.. We see this from the white house on Capitol Hill to skid row.

Why would a bank give a second mortgage to a family who have a home with a mortgage fully paid knowing they have no means to pay the loan back anyway? America, home of the greedy. They knew the market value of the homes in the community and still gave these people a loan. They helped them create a money pit. Desperate people will do desperate things to keep from going under. Desperation has no color either. Hence, the BIG bailout to of all places WALL STREET. They make Las Vegas look like Disney Land.

Finally, there is no difference between the U.S. Government and banks (Federal Reserve). They are one entity working together for their common good. Why do we insist on regurgitating the symptoms of what's wrong in the world? No one in this world has any answers. That's why.

I read several years ago, that the value of the home given to a family is considered "income" and taxed by the IRS, so, they'd have to come up with the 35%, or sell the home to be able to pay it.

Why would they even think about taking out a 2nd mortgage if the house was basically paid off? That is just greedy and retarded. This isn't how they should have taken advantage of their new home. It was paid off to help them, not for them to get greedy. They deserve to lose this house.

I appreciated your point of view until you replied to another poster "I don't expect a denizen of the U.S…" What a pompous man and how very common you are, indeed.

And to all of the other posters referring to these people as imbeciles, idiots, et al…, remember that they have children and said children will bear the brunt of their parents choices.

Where did I ever use the word hate? If you knew me you would know that word does not feature in my lexicon. I was simply pointing out that notwithstanding there is an element of moral hazard associated with these televsion shows, there are serious strcutural problems in the U.S. economy which are exacerbating their worst effects.
