Never had a chance to display it or shoot a scumbag. Guess I'll have to move to the east coast for that. Maybe the difference is that we allow concealed carry permits and a lot of Westerners do just that to keep things honest and help enforce the laws. Anecdotal evidence will never be counted, no matter how many people say 'OMG Cincy?! 5 murders in 5 days!!!' it means nothing unless it's a very small town. The Cincinatti metro is pretty big, clearly, the crime per 100,000 residents is fairly low. Same with NYC. I'm sure there is a lot more crime there than in many cities, but it so huge and has so many people, per 100,000 it's very low. These rankings are always, and will always, be based on statistics.
