The Memphis Business Journal has a profile on Rosemarie Fair, a who emigrated from Japan at 17, and now 35 years later is one of the most successful real estate entreprenuers in the Memphis area.

Rosemarie Fair’s rural Shelby County home is a long way from the crowded coastal cities of Japan where she grew up.

Before she left her family to come to the U.S. at the age of 17, her mother told her: “You have to take the good of the American culture and the good of the Japanese culture, build it and make it you.”

From her Japanese roots on her mother’s side, there is reverence for culture and detail. From her American roots on her father’s side, there is independence and entrepreneurial spirit.

Now, 35 years later, Fair is still living her American dream. She has helped build two successful businesses from the ground up, is a well-respected leader in the industry, and contributes to the futures of thousands of girls as president of the Girl Scout Council of the Mid-South.
