Source United Van Lines,

The Walk-Through saw these numbers and surmised “It seems those high house prices on the coasts are encouraging some people to pack up the moving van. Some economists say that’s when you should start to look for a correction.”.

My impression is that more than high housing costs are involved. This trend has been going on for a number of years, with relocation to the Southeast from the Midwest and Northeast. Other significant factors that contribute to these statistics are weather related, transfering from high taxation to low taxation states, and political (huge movements from Blue to Red States.)
