Mr_Potter_Wonderful LifeThe landmark New London case regarding Eminent Domain has taken another bizarre and harrowing turn last night in a city council meeting. The residents whose homes were taken by eminent domain to build a new private development have been given an offer. TO RENT THEIR OWN CONFISCATED HOMES! Welcome to Pottersville, USA.

The mayor of New London, where a fight over government seizing property led to a controversial U.S. Supreme Court ruling, is proposing a compromise for a group of homeowners.
Under a plan presented to the City Council Monday night, four people whose homes were seized for a private development would be allowed to stay. The city would own their properties and the residents would have to pay the city to live there. via Washington Post.

So let me get this straight. The government takes your property by force to improve the city. That is a horrible enough thought. But then they have the unmitigated gall to offer to rent the seized home back to the original owners. Unbelievable.

Hello homeowner, the Sheriff here has a gun and will shoot you if you do not leave your property and sell to us at a price we will determine, but if you like we will rent the home back to you.

Is this behavior that anyone could ever dream would happen in America?

Its_a_Wonderful_Life YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!!!! More Eminent Domain IdiocyI guess that we should thank the morons on the New London City Council. Their horrendous and pathetic attempts to enrich the city at the expense of the residents will force politicians to enact strict laws at the state level to stop further abuses like this one.

Maybe we need a combination of the two great Jimmy Stewart characters to confound the greedy politicians. Combine his characters in “Its a Wonderful Life” with “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington”. We may need someone like that.
