This is the dirty secret of eminent domain, it is not used just for taking property for the public good, but it is taking property at a steep discount for the politicians and developers good. Fortunately, a hospital in Albany Georgia is learning this lesson the hard way, being force to pay a 93 year old the market price, 5 times the amount they tried to force her to take using eminent domain.

A jury has sided with a property owner and her 93-year-old tenant in a Georgia eminent domain case.
A hospital in Albany, Georgia, condemned the rental house last year so it could expand a child development center for employees’ children.
The jury has decided that the hospital will have to pay nearly five times what it offered for the house. And it must give the tenant 51-thousand dollars to help her move from her home of nearly three decades.
About 40 states are also re-examining their laws in response to a Supreme Court eminent domain ruling last June. The ruling gave officials of New London, Connecticut, the authority to condemn a group of waterfront homes for a private developer. via KLTV 7
