Being under 30 and a real estate agent is not that common, most often people enter real estate as a second career. But with the increased use of technology and the internet, being an effective realtor is much more than just showing homes and talking about drapery.
Fayetteville Online has an interesting article for those interested in becoming a real estate agent before 30.
Only 5 percent of all real estate agents are younger than 30 years old, says Tim Kent, executive vice president of the N.C. Association of Realtors.
“It’s a tough business for any new entry to real estate, regardless of age,” Kent says. “And it’s particularly difficult for a young individual who may not have sufficient capital to keep them afloat in months without a paycheck.”
Yet there are young professionals such as Collins bearing through the first two tough years _ when median annual income falls just under $13,000 _ and winning the fight for turf.
Last year, Collins recorded $5.5 million in home sales as an agent with Remax of Greensboro in an industry where the median age is 52 and rising slightly.
“I have definitely, in the last 10 years, seen a lot of younger agents enter the marketplace,” says Nikole McClanahan, an agent with Remax 1st Choice in Greensboro.
The young people she’s seen view real estate as a career, not cash on the side. They’re tech-savvy and Web friendly, essential skills in an industry where agents market themselves and compete online.
And the ones who are making it will tell you that, despite sometimes living on Ramen noodles or going into debt for the fancy car that screams success to clients, real estate is worth it. via Fayetteville Online
