Woman Accused of Real Estate Fraud Against Marines Serving in Iraq

Imagine having the nerve to defraud soldiers serving our country to the tune of 3 million dollars by selling real estate that you did not even own. That is what Evelyn Corina Oberhuber did recently. To top it all off, her husband is a Marine serving at Fort Pendleton and was a volunteer who recieved an award for helping military families.

Then Evelyn Corina Oberhuber turns around and steals from them. Horrible.

A woman once honored for her volunteer work at Camp Pendleton has been arrested, accused of running a real estate scam that authorities say bilked more than $3 million from 50 people, including the families of a dozen troops who have served in Iraq.

Evelyn Corina Oberhuber, 36, of Huntington Beach is being held at Orange County Jail without bail. She is scheduled to be arraigned today in Fullerton on charges including fraud, forgery and filing false documents.

Authorities say Oberhuber, who is married to a Marine and was arrested Thursday, duped would-be home buyers to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for homes in Laguna Beach, San Juan Capistrano, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Los Angeles and San Diego counties that were in the foreclosure process. Investigators said the homes were offered at below-market prices. via the Los Angeles Times.

  1. I was a victim of Evelyn Oberhuber. We lost thousands of dollars. I cant begin to express our discuss and shame to learn what this two people have done to us and so many other families.
It is a shame that their names are associated with the military.

  2. I don’t know what happened. However, if people were not so stupid and greedy, then they would at least make it harder for the crooks to get their money. Want to “find” real estate deals? Then take the time and make the effort to know your area inside and out. There is no “secret” market where “insiders” buy properties for pennies on the dollar. That is total BS. Want to “buy” real estate with only a few thousand dollars? Well, there are plenty of people out there who have a bridge they will sell you.

  3. What is actually going on with that case anyway? Also, you mentioned two people did this to you? I only read about one? Did she have someone helping her with these transactions? Where can I read more information regarding this case?

  4. I dont really fully understand what happened.

Was she repersenting herself as the seller of forclosured homes? I though thats what title insurance is for. I feel sorry for the folks that were dupped you know they were first time buyers new to the process. When you are a first time buyer you really be careful because you dont know what is normal, dishonest lenders and realtors will take you for a ride if you let them. Thats true, californio, somthing to good to be true usually is. It took me two years to find a deal on a house and it took presistance and time.

  5. SINCE YOU PEOPLE ARE OBVIOUSLY SO INCOMPETENT NOT TO CHECK INTO WHERE OR WHOM YOU ARE DUMPING YOUR MONEY TO THEN YOU DESERVE WHAT HAS HAPPENED. COME ON NOW WHY ARE THERE LOCKS ON DOORS AND WHY DO YOU LOCK YOUR DOORS????? TO KEEP CRIMINALS OUT!! PEOPLE SUCH AS YOU LET CRIMINALS SUCCEED…YOU HAVE NOBODY TO BLAME BUT YOURSELVES. HERE IS SOME ADVICE TO YOU: WATCH YOUR OWN BACKS, DONT RELY ON OTHERS TO DO IT FOR YOU!

  6. This is to the insensitive jerk! On the above blog learn how to type! Don’t you know when you type in all caps it means you are yelling. DUH!!!!!!

  7. I think thats his intentions, were to yell. I think all these people that got ripped off have the inteligence of a box of rocks. Its very clear if you are going to buy a property, you need a realtor. Stop these get rich quick deals and start to do things the right way. I’m out…

  8. thats really too bad all that happened I cant believe people would do that to Marines
