Want to Rent Your Home To Filmakers So It Is In a Movie? Here is How
The LA Times has written a very interesting article on how to get movie companies to rent your home as a set for films. While the focus on this article is on the Los Angeles region, the article has merit for anyone who is interested and lives in a region where films are made. Our family lives near a film making studio, and it is interesting what steps you can take to have a film shot in your house.
And the pay is not bad. According to the article, the studios will pay from 2,000 to 20,000 dollars a day to rent your house on top of putting you up in a hotel.
Not too shabby if you ask me.
“To successfully market your home as a film location, your approach should resemble that of an actor,” said Perry, author of the upcoming book “Opening Your Door to Hollywood: How to Get Rich by Turning Your Property Into a Movie Set.” “Two things all successful actors must have are perseverance and the willingness to work hard.” Not to mention the ability to handle rejection — you may get a lot of “sorry, maybe next times” before your house gets its big break.
Last year, there were more than 30,000 days of location filming for which permits were pulled in the Los Angeles area. Permits are required for any filming that takes place outside a soundstage or a film studio. About 70% to 80% of location filming in Southern California occurs in private residences.

We are interested in renting our property out for filming on location. Our property has 29 acres, horses, barn, in-ground pool, the home is a showcase “clubhouse, ranch style, 3 floors, with loft ceilings and lots of stonework, potbelly stoves, etc. The interior is classic ranch, with unseamed cedar walls throughout, including an old player piano. Perfect location for filming, lots of room for camera angles, etc. We are located in Snellville Georgia, just outside of Stone Mountain, 35 minutes from Hartsfield Airport. We also own a down home good old fashioned honky tonk that is located just 7 minutes away. Perfect locations for cowboy/western movies/mini series/music videos or TV movies. Please call for pictures, more information.

Well I think my place could be used for many types of movie I live in a high set house that is 60-70 years old on 10 acres there is ample room for set up and cars to park and the house is a real character and so old fashioned with its old panel windows throughout and along with the 2 big bay windows in the front of house giving it an eerie feel for night but classic and homey feel through the day and the wildlife around us every morning is incredible.
This house would be perfect for a movie director to check out.

Hi,
I have a beautiful 4000sf California-Mexican one story stucco ranch house on a flat one acre hilltop in North San Diego county with a beautiful panoramic ocean view a good part of the year. The landscape is a tropical Puerto Villarta like genre with hundreds of mature palms and myriad tropical fruit trees, plants, shrubs and cacti species. Many of my friends including a nephew who’s a producer for Sony and a niece who is a well known film editor have suggested I offer my home as a movie/film set. The property is relatively secluded, quiet and has plenty of parking. How do I go about making the right contacts for this purpose?
Thanks,
John

1960 Spanish Adobe Style Hacienda.
Location: Fallbrook, California
Terracotta floors throughout the hacienda and into the guesthouse.
360 degrees views from all windows in the hacienda, which overlook the San Luis Rey Valley in north county San Diego California.
Old world french doors leading from each room of the hacienda onto the center courtyard, which contains old world spanish 12 foot fountain, lush tropical landscape, and scattered pathways that meander and connect all parts of the compound.
Overhangs over every porch in the U shaped compound both in
the front of the hacienda and in the courtyard. Interior is all
adobe brick and is painted white. All ceilings in the hacienda are made of pine and some are stained dark and some are painted white.
Rocking chairs line the front porch like at an old resort hotel.
Views are expansive. This paradise is hidden away and still in the center of everything in North County San Diego. Hammocks, avocado groves, fruit trees, hundreds of birds of paradise line the driveway which spirals to the very top of this hidden old world home. This is the real deal…. this is what others try to copy. This life and magesty of the Grove House Hacienda is in the air of this place. Peaceful and special. The minute someone arrives, they know they are somewhere special.
Comments from guest:
How did you find this place?
Is this a movie set?
Why don’t you make this a bed and breakfast?
I don’t want to leave.
How was I to know that you had found this little slice of heaven here in Fallbrook?
This place is magical.
I can’t even describe this place to my friends.
Can you feel the vibes here. This place is special.
The Grove House Hacienda has a particular feeling about it:
French, Spanish, and Italian countryside.
Feels like the islands…. Saint Thomas
Mexico
Wine Country of Southern California and Napa, perhaps.
Mountain cabin feeling even.
Had several weddings here as well as entertained private tour groups traveling across the United States.

I have a spectacular waterfront home on Bainbridge Island, 30 minutes from Seattle by ferry. It has been in a local magazine and many tell me it should be used for a movie set. Great location.

The large family room has a wood burning fireplace for cozy evenings at home and opens onto a private courtyard–an ideal opportunity to enjoy sunny days in seclusion. The gourmet kitchen has been updated with maple cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. Enjoy the convenience of the large pantry. The upper level has 4 bedrooms all with gorgeous hardwood flooring. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet and a 3 piece ensuite. The basement boasts a separate entrance, open concept living area, eat in kitchen, 4 pc bath and 2 bedrooms. Both the rear and front yards have been professionally landscaped and this home has great curb appeal.

Hallo, am located in Kenya and i think our farm house would be ideal for movie makers who would want to feature the Aberdare National park as a suitable film location. We are 170kms from Nairobi or 2.5hours drive. The location is suitable for spiritual or horror movies, advertisements etc i guarantee this is an exposed location, so while taking the movie stay in our house – we don’t live there, has 3 bedrooms but can only use 2bedrooms the rest of the house is accessible..send me email claudiak@consultant.com. simple groceries can be gotten from the farm otherwise the town market is only 20 minutes drive.

I have a 2 year old 6600 sq. ft. home in the village of Scituate MA, 30 miles from downtown Boston, that would be a wonderful home for film making. With a 190 ft. dock to the water, the house sits on 4 acres of land. It has a very open floor plan and is beautifully appointed. It is also .5 miles to the commuter rail. I have a small home located in Clinton Maryland. I would like to rent out my home so that I can make money to remodel it. My house is too small and because of the economy I can not afford to expand my home as I want to. My home would be the idea home for a scary movie. I have a acre of land, a lot of woods and my street is private. If you are interested in using my home please contact me as soon as possible. I also have a lot of land that you can use for setting up your equipment, camping out or you can expand my home to your liking to set up for whatever movie you like.

RENT OUR BEAUTIFUL HOME FOR AN INCREDIBLE PRICE FOR YOUR TV PROGRAM, YOUR MOVIE, YOUR WEDDING, YOUR PARTY OR YOUR SPECIAL EVENT !
This is a single-story, ranch-style 2700 sq. ft. traditional home sitting on a 14,000 sq. ft. lot with The California Country Club as the background setting, located in Whittier, CA.
The interior of the home consists of four very ample bedrooms, three large bathrooms, a huge living room with fireplace, a huge family room with fireplace, a comfortable formal dining room, a breakfast nook, a wet bar & a foyer.
The greatest benefit to the homes’ interior are the ample rooms connected by very wide hallways; the soft-beige-colored walls provide an open canvas and work excellently to reflect the natural lighting provided by the many skylights and windows galore.
The backyard consists of a gym-sized pool with a rockslide and a Jacuzzi, with a brick fire pit to the side; there is a large patio deck with an overhead post-and-beam trellis. There are lush trees, beautiful plants, and flowers abound.
The home is available 7 days of the week with a necessary 2-week advance notice, minimum; we strongly suggest booking many months in advance as availability cannot be guaranteed. There is an agreement to be signed stipulating the details of the lease / rental of the home as well as the necessary deposit. The home can be leased / rented in sections – be that exclusively the backyard, or certain rooms. As an added convenience to our guests, we can provide- at an affordable price: event planning, tables and chairs, tablecloths, flowers, catering, party favors, jumpers, limo service, valet, DJ, and entertainment.

Our home is in Vancouver Washington. Nice, quiet neighborhood, wide treeline
streets, large evergreens, green everywhere, ( it’s the northwest after all). Tri level home, open floor plan on main level, nice loft
that can be seen from the living room. Vaulted ceilings 21 feet. You could bring in equipment and navigate with ease in the house.
Nothing fancy, but the furniture is not low budget. Leather couches,
60 inch plasma, stain glass lamps, lovely thick glass and wood base coffee and end tables, large bookcase, Nice window treatments etc. It is the home of a middle to upper middle class family.
The area is called Salmon Creek. Not a heavy traffic area. This is where you go to raise a family. We are less than 10 miles from downtown Portland just the other side of the beautiful Columbia River.
I can provide photos if anyone is interested in checking it out.
