The Census Bureau has released the data for the top 10 fastest growing counties in the United States. The trend leans towards the west and the south as the leaders of growth.

  1. Flagler Florida  10.7% Increase
  2. Lyon County Nevada 9.6% Increase
  3. Kendall County Illinois 9.4% Increase
  4. Rockwall County Texas 7.7% Increase
  5. Washington County Utah 7.7% Increase
  6. Nye County Nevada 7.4% Increase
  7. Pinal County Arizona 6.9% Increase
  8. Loudoun County Virginia 6.8% Increase
  9. King George County Virginia 6.7% Increase
  10. Caroline County Virginia 6.5% Increase

Update: A reader made a good point that these numbers are skewed because they are smaller counties, so I added this table to the post.

  1. Wow between 1005 and 2004 I’d have expected different results. [typo in header] These snapshots are not useful unless we restrict them to places, say, 10,000 and over.

    I’m actually surprised. I thought Loudoun would have risen to the top. Notice also that places like Riverside, CA and Las Vegas, NV don’t show up and nearly everyplace (kidding) in Georgia was added. Clearly Flager County will have to be added to my watch list.

  3. I know that this blog was posted back in 2006, but wanted to post an update based on 2007 census reports. I am linking the article from the Daily Herald from March 2008. We are a custom home builder in Kendall County (www.CLDesignBuild.com)and experienced firsthand the tremendous growth. We are still experiencing an increase in the real estate market, approximately 1.97%!
