Zillow Adds Sideways and Over the Top Mapping

ZillowmapZillow is adding overhead and sideways mapping using the same technology found in Microsoft’s Virtual Earth product. Instead of seeing the  rooftops of homes as most mapping programs provide, the Zillow product will show 45 degree angles of the homes and properties giving prospects the opportunity to get a much better view of the property they are interesting.

The images, which are provided by Microsoft’s mapping application, Virtual Earth, offer a panoramic view of homes from four directions at a 45-degree angle. At present, images are available only in major cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Boston, and Seattle.

The actual pictures are taken by Pictometry International, a five-year-old startup that specializes in digital, oblique aerial imaging. The company offers its technology to government agencies such as Homeland Security and corporations such as Seattle-based Zillow. via RED HERRING

  1. Zillow is pretty good and still ahead of Redfin.com however I really think Google will be taking over this space in the next two years.

  2. All this talk how Zillow will take away my real estate business. It’s all hype. No one knows how good or bad the data is. I checed Zillow for my own home. The data was 10 years old. It showed the vacant land price fom 1996 before the house was even built. So yes, bring your Zillow data and try to make a home buying or selling decision. While the real estate agents have current data to get you real information.

  3. http://www.HomePriceMaps.com integrates nationwide real estate prices with the google mapping technology. If you don’t see data for your area simply email HomePriceMaps@gmail.com with your zipcode and or address and the site will run an update with information for your area and email you within a few days once the update is complete.
