Living in Atlanta you would never know that framing or roofing a house could be done by anyone but an immigrant. The building industry has been dominated in the last decade by Latin American workers. Now those in the building industry are very concerned over the impact that immigration reform legislation may have on the industry.
The Associated Contractors and Builders, which represents 23,000 construction firms, warns that without an immigrant workforce, U.S. construction will grind to a halt, the Dallas Morning News reported Sunday.
“We believe the nation must do something sooner rather than later,” said Danielle Ringwood, director of legislative affairs for the contractors’ group.
The organization estimates the industry will need 185,000 new workers over the next 10 years just to remain at current levels. Via UPI
