Governor Mitch Daniels has announced that Decatur or Ripley may be in the running for a Honda plant that may be coming to the state. While there is no guarantee, Daniels feels that the state has a good chance of landing the plant and is putting together a package of properties to woo Honda.
He did not disclose details about the investment, but he said it would be “significantly larger than earlier news reports indicated.”
The Indianapolis Star has reported that state officials have been acquiring options to buy as much as 3,000 acres for an industrial facility that would employ more than 750 people and cost at least $200 million to build. Several sites near Interstate 74 in southeast Indiana, perhaps near Batesville and Greensburg, are being examined, the newspaper said.
Daniels confirmed that Honda is the company involved and that the facility would be in Decatur or Ripley counties.
