NahbThe National Association of Home Builders  has released  their housing affordability index. This calculates the affordability of a home by those earning the regions median income. Indianapolis lead the affordability index by having 90 percent of their homes affordable by those earning the median income.

In major metro markets the top 5 cities for affordability are:

  1. Indianapolis
  2. Youngstown – Warren – Boardman
  3. Detroit – Livonia – Dearborn
  4. Rochester
  5. Buffalo

The Smaller Market Top 5 Affordable Homes

  1. Lansing
  2. Davenport – Moline – Rock Island
  3. Lima, Ohio
  4. Battle Creek, Michigan
  5. Bay City, Michigan
