Why Are Homes Getting Bigger, It May Be Because It Is Where You Work

Home_based_businessOne of the questions that comes often is why do we need so much more room in our homes? The answer that has been out there but not considered is that home is where the business is. Over half of the businesses in the United States are home based. So whether it is intellectual capital that is being used or shipping items, we need space besides the kitchen table to work at.

While this does not answer the whole question of houses growing, it is a viable part of the equation.

49 percent of U.S. businesses are home-based, according to U.S. Census Bureau
For about half the nation’s business owners, the morning commute involves little more than getting out of bed — one of the benefits of owning a home-based business, according to a new study.
Of the nation’s 16.6 million businesses, about 49 percent are home-based, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures released Tuesday. Leading the way are businesses owned by women and blacks.
About 56 percent of women-owned ventures are home-based versus 47 percent for men. via the MiamiHerald.com

  1. Especially is this the case in the real estate market. Many agents only go into the office once a week for a few hours or for a meeting.

Plus, mortgage lenders have gotten much more creative with their lending programs and so people can afford a larger house.
