What Not To Do With Your Real Estate License – Specialize in Marijuana Grow-Ops Homes

GrowhouseWe all know there are way to many real estate agents in California, there is a licensed agent for every 52 people in the state. And we know in a saturated market it is smart to specialize in a specific niche to gain expertise and business. But if you are going to do so, it probably is not the smartest idea to specialize in marijuana grow-ops homes, especially if that is all you focus on.

Police in the Stockton, California area found a string of grow-ops homes, homes that have been converted to being a pot farm. Like every good investigator, the police looked for commonality in the homes and came across the realt estate agent and saw that all the homes had been purchased by a buyer who used Dickson Hung as their agent.

Now being the professionals the police are, they searched all of the homes that Hung had sold, and amazingly so, they found 11 more grow houses in the region. This is a real estate agent who found his niche and stuck with it.

When police officers checked the address of those homes, they found the all of the window covered in blinds and shutters. By listening at the front door, they “could hear the sound of blower motors inside,” according to the affidavits. Even with the blowers running, when the homes’ electric meters were check, the dial was moving slowly, indicating the residence was not using much electricity.

News10 learned last month that Hung was one of two real estate agents buyers used for most of the 41 total pot houses uncovered in San Joaquin and Sacramento counties since August.

  2. Great post. I linked to it this morning because, coincidentally, I was tracking one of Dickson Hung’s listings and trying to find out why it was pulled from the market. No wonder he doesn’t return media calls! -Paul

I have no idea why, the listing agent wouldn’t pick up the phone or return my calls. But I did find this recent story from a Sacramento TV station tying the agent in question to eight grow-houses busted in dope seizures. Coincidence? [...]
