Buy Leonard Bernsteins Dakota Apartment for Only 25.5 Million

Dakota_aptsLeonard Bernstein’s apartment in the famed Dakota Apartments(wikipedia) in Manhattan is for sale at the price of a cool 25.5 Million dollars. The Dakota is most famous as the place where John Lennon lived and was murdered outside of. Other famous residents of the Dakota over the years include: actress Lauren Bacall , rock star Bono ,newscaster Connie Chung , actress Judy Garland , actress Judy Holliday , football announcer John Madden, judge/boxing referee Mills Lane , singer / songwriter Paul Simon , and singer / songwriter Sting.

Leonard Bernstein is one of the most famous composers of the 20th Century, but is most noted as being the long time music director of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. His imprint on music in the United States is widespread.

Leonard_BernsteinFeaturing mahogany wood, soaring ceilings, several wood-burning fireplaces and spacious rooms, the second-floor, northeast-corner residence has an asking price of $25.5 million.
After conductor and composer Bernstein died in 1990, the now 12-room apartment eventually sold in 1997 to Dakota resident Peter Terian, the owner of Rallye Motors car dealership empire, for $4 million in a private sale.
Terian’s widow, Juliana Terian, an architect by trade who took over the car dealerships after Peter died of cancer in 2002, was in charge of restoring the prewar pad that includes four bedrooms, five baths, a large living room and dining room, a library, pantry and maid’s room.
Now Juliana is selling the luxe digs. And despite a report earlier this week that the apartment has sold, Terian’s broker, Prudential Douglas Elliman’s Dolly Lenz, says she hasn’t even begun showing it.  via the New York Post
