While it probably would take a while for the number of real estate agents getting into the market, numbers coming out of Washington state are showing a reduction in the amount of new agents entering the business. But what is amazing me is the numbers are still growing.
When the market was strong and robust, it (the real estate profession) was attractive for individuals,” he said. “As we see stability in the market place, there has been stability and balance in agents and (brokers).”
The same trend of a slowing growth in agents and brokers is true statewide.
From 2004 to 2005, the number of active licensees rose from 32,907 to 40,680, a work force gain of 7,773 people, according to Debbie Wright, program licensing manager for real estate licensing at the state Department of Licensing.
Since then, however, the real estate agent and broker totals have grown only by 3,680 to 44,360, she said. via the Olympia, Washington.
My guess is in the next 2–3 years we will see an overall decline in the number of real estate agents in the marketplace as those looking for easy money leave. Selling real estate as a career is a tough business. When things were booming it was not that hard as all you needed was a sign and an assistant who could get the listing into MLS. But as the market retrenches the true professionals will be needed to move homes.
