Home Marketing Techniques - Aerial Pictures to Sell Homes

AerialpixThere has been a bit of discussion in the real estate blogging world on how best to take pictures of homes that are for sale to place in the MLS or other marketing vehicles. Ardell uses a photo to show a condo is dog friendly. Galen also at Rain City explores some of his tricks to create amazing real estate porn (work safe). And Greg Swann does his typically strong job in getting into the details of composition.

So when I saw this article on low level aerial photography, it peaked my interest. Two gentleman from central Arizona have put their thinking caps on and have come up with a groundbreaking product, Elevation Photography. They have a camera rig that can take pictures from 50 feet above a home. Thus the MLS front shot is fulfilled, but the image they take will differentiate your listing from the pack. It can show the home, the backyard, and the surrounding area. A much more appetizing, and enticing, view for potential buyers.

Kristopher Shane and Anthony Benton, owners of Elevation Photography, are attracting clients in real estate business for their “over the top” digital photography.

They shoot from two mast cams, including one attached to their van that towers 50 feet. The other - a smaller, portable unit that reaches 25 feet in height - is better at getting into a house, backyard or convention center event. advertisement

“We looked into many traditional and non-traditional photographing techniques and decided to create our very own low-altitude aerial photography company,” Shane said. “We’ve developed and custom-made all our equipment.”

“We take aerial photos to show aspects of a property that couldn’t be seen otherwise. People want to see something stunning and new when they’re trying to sell or market a property.” Benton agreed. “They say ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ Well, our pictures are worth a million words.”

Their online portfolio illustrates the advantages of elevated aerial shots. A typical front door shot of a property can’t show the golf fairway or sweeping mountain vistas behind it as the aerial shot easily captures.

Bonnie Dillon, a luxury home specialist for Keller Williams Realty East Valley, said aerial photography captures a “unique perspective of a home and its surroundings that can’t be captured in a traditional photo shoot.” via Arizona Central.

  1. This is a great idea really and I think I’d use such a service if it was available in my area at a fair price. Seems to me though that the real estate community has a lot of work to do on the quality of their photos from the ground. Too many agents just don’t seem to get the importance of capturing and using good images to market homes. Thanks for the heads up on this one.

  2. This could be a great feature to set your property apart from others, especially for higher-end properties. Showing off circular driveways, landscaping, position of home on the lot, etc., could all be done by angles of these photos. Curious as to what the cost is…

  4. I am glad I happened across this blog. It is very interesting to see aerial/elevated photography from the real estate point of view. I run an aerial photography business in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We use a specially built remote control camera to carry a camera into the air. We are able to capture photos from ground level to 500 feet which makes for some great photos and eye catching angles.
