Interesting How the New Year Brings Up Topics

I took a little bit of time today to surf around the web, and it seems that the meme of the day is the fluorescent light bulbs.

  • Seth Godin riffs on the economics and environmental aspects.
  • Instapundit is laughing at the lefties in charge at WalMart.
  • Bloodhound talks about the capitalistic victory of technology.

We have a few high ceilings that changing bulbs is a real pain the behind. So last year we replaced them all with fluorescent bulbs. Easier to deal with and a low cost alternative. I think we are looking at converting over to mostly fluorescent bulbs, but for the areas which provide the reading lights will probably stay with traditional bulbs as it is much more pleasing on these tired old eyes.

  1. Incandescent bulbs are the best. However, a compromise solution is ‘natural wave length’ fluorescent. They have a special coating to shift the light from the harsh wavelengths of fluorescent to the type of light one gets from the sun. A colleague of mine uses them and he swears by them. The bulbs themselves (in my experience) are yellow rather than white.
