It is an all too common tragedy, a car accident takes the lives of the parents and the children survive. We all typically sigh, think sympathetic thoughts, and then go upon our busy lives. But when the Reyes Family from Bergenfield, NJ lost both parents, a grandmother, and a sister in a car accident, the local real estate community stepped up and provided a future for the two surviving children.  To the tune of paying off all the parents debts and saving the home from foreclosure, renovating the home for sale, and setting aside 205,000 dollars for college tuition.

After the Reyeses’ death, surviving family members struggled to pay bills and stave off foreclosure on the house. Local real estate businesspeople came to their aid last October, putting up the money to cover all debts and finish the house, which had various construction problems. They expect to recoup their money from proceeds of the sale.
“We want these kids to get their money and move on with their life,” said Saverio Marra, vice president of All American Lending and one of the project’s sponsors. “I don’t want these kids to wait. They waited long enough.”
Marty Moylan, Marra’s business partner and a sales associate for Weichert Realtors in Tenafly, said, “It’s giving back to a community that I made a living on all these years.”
Sixty-two days after announcing the project, all debts have been repaid and construction is nearly finished. The finished home has four bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a Jacuzzi tub and fireplace and is expected to be listed for $934,500, said Realtor Karla Cino, another project sponsor. She will be showing it to potential buyers in a few weeks. via the North Jersey Media Group

Often times the stereotype of a Realtor is not the most flattering, so when stories like these occur, it is good to remind the general public that real estate agents tend to be one of the more active groups in the local community.
