Pittsburgh

Places Rated Almanac has come out with their 25th anniversary edition and list of the top 10 most livable cities in the United States. Pittsburgh led the way followed by San Francisco and Seattle.

What makes this study so interesting is that out of the 378 metropolitan areas that were considered and 9 categories, Pittsburgh did not enter the top 20 of any of the categories. Their best showing was 21st in recreation, but the city was without any major defect and by being so emminently average it won out as the best of the best.

  1. Top 10 out of the 378 metropolitan….that might have taken a lot of time to decide…

Well very interesting information about Pittsburgh…

    Daniel.

  2. Philadelphia should be no where near this list! I’ve lived here for over 25 years and can’t wait to get out. The murder and violent crime rate is increasing, the city government is corrupt, city services are mismanaged, it’s filthy everywhere you go, once nice neighborhoods have become run down and Philadelphian’s are amoung the rudest people in the world.

  3. I have been planning to move to Oregon, and it is comforting to know that the city made it to this list.

See you in Oregon, next month.

  4. I was veery surprised to here that Pittsburgh made the list. I have never seen such a segregated city in my life!

  5. Most livable yeah for people that don’t know anything about the city people get shot once maybe twice every other day and for only 350 thousand people a murder rate of 70 and rising is sick and I’m from the east side of detroit

  6. Most livable yeah for people that don’t know anything about the city. People get shot once maybe twice every other day and for only 350 thousand people a murder rate of 70 and rising is sick and I’m from the east side of detroit. Sorry can’t agree been to way better places I rather raise my family.

  7. Inner city pgh is just as bad as any city in this country people get shot her everyday half untold

  8. Pittsburgh? Rochester? Philadelphia? San Jose?
    EWW
I’ve been to all those cities and “ew” is all I can say.

  9. how is san fran anywhere close to livable? A small studio is about $1300 a month! Not to mention all the homos and hippies everywhere. that places bites!

  10. Pittsburgh is one of the best cities in the country. I have no idea why people say there is violence and crime. You can walk downtown Pittsburgh at 2 am and be safe as any time in the day. There is not one thing I cannot do in Pittsburgh that I can do in Ney York or Boston. I feel blessed to live in Pittsburgh, unlike the despair and the have and have nots of New York and Boston. Everyone gets along in pittsburgh and they are not rude like new yorkers or even worse stuck up like the bosonians!

  11. wow “Bill”….really?

  12. Those are surprising results. Pittsburgh over San Fran is especially surprising. Does anybody have a list of the criteria the cities were judged on?

  13. I must say that pittsburgh is awesome talk alllll you want!! : ) it was a wonderful place to grow up in, I now live in daytona beach n I miss pittsburgh very much!

  14. [...] Oregon has consistently rated as one of the most livable cities in the U.S., and places like Costello’s are part of the reason. Third places, locations other than home [...]

  15. I have lived in Pittsburgh with my children for two years doing my post doc at Pitt, it was the best two years of my life Pittsburgh is amazing city, unfortunately most people simply do not know and never visit.
