Yikes! Video Killed The Real Estate Webmaster

Folks, the day has changed. If you have spent years developing your blogsite for big generic terms and have built your business on it, you will have to refocus your efforts again. Google has changed their methodology to include all of their news, video, and other searches under their main search.

So if you were ranking #4 for New York City Real Estate last week, you may be down to #11 today. Why, because a New York Times story that previously showed up in news is there, a video about New York Architecture is now included from YouTube, and other sources are feeding the main search results that used to be only text.

My traffic is down a bit the last couple of days and I think it because of this, and I do not sell houses. I just write about them so I lose a couple of dollars. Do you lose a couple of sales?

This video by Loren Feldman, a New York Videoblogger who is a great liaison between the real world and the tech world, talks about what he see’s in store for us. Note that he is a videoblogger so he has a dog in this fight, but his advice is solid.

I think that the folks who get an early jump may have a huge headstart in the next few months as Google reworks their search effort. But if I was a real estate agent or mortgage broker and my business was generated by Google referrals to my website, I would focus on this space and maybe learn a little about video blogging.

I promise I will be testing it on some of my sites in the near future. You should too.

  1. That is a big change. Huge change really.

Video vs Virtual Tour just more interesting too.

  2. Yeah, this is major. SEO just took a serious turn.

  3. Video is the way to go. It provides a multi-sensory for the audience. Isn’t it why we take our date to a movie and not to a library? Okay…that was a bad analogy.
