Real Estate Bloggers VideoCast - Using Video on the Internet
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Here is the first go with a videocast on topics of the day. It is a bit rough but with practice it may turn into something. The great thing about the web is that we can practice with new tools and nobody gets hurt.
Today I talked about using video on the internet and why it is important for real estate professionals. The program I used is a beta version of Adobe Visual Communicator 3. It has just been released as a beta program which will allow you to use it for 100 days or so for free. It is an amazing program with a teleprompter built in.
Of course, trying to read a teleprompter is fairly difficult and will take some practice.

Welcome to our first ever video blog on the real estate bloggers. My name is Tom Royce and today lets talk about using video on the web.
If you are a real estate agent and have been around for a few years a simple text page and a listing on realtor.com was considered quite an achievement.
6 years ago, getting pictures online and the brave folks who got visual tour’s working were considered the leading edge. Having your own website in 2000 was pioneer territory.
This is a picture of Coldwell Bankers First Web page in 1996. See how basic it is for an industry leader.
Now, even the most grizzled veterans will have their grandchildren getting sites up and populated for their business. It is considered a necessity.
So to distinguish yourself from the pack you will need a new hook. Video is just the answer and the time to get started is now. Why you ask?
First people are becoming more accustomed to watching videos online. They convey the topic that you are trying to get across much more efficiently and in a format that people are comfortable with. Also with the video you have a chance to express your personality and provides much more in information than just text and pictures alone.
Secondly, Google this week implemented a new way that their search results will be shown. Previously videos and images were their own categories. Now they will be included in the basic search engine. Rankings that in the past may have been consistently in the top 10 now may be in trouble. There may be a video or a news story or a picture that will take its place. Ranking on Google will be much more competitive than it has in the past.
So getting a video up for you area and the homes you sell may make the difference between great rankings and disappearing from the first page.
This video is created using Adobe visual communicator that will be released this summer. It is a great example of new tools that are going to revolutionize Internet video. To be honest this is the first video that I’ve ever done except for an ill-fated college project and it was very easy.
If I can do this on a first go with the powerful tool using just my web cam and a microphone, what do you think you can do? What is even scarier what can your competitors do.
This is Tom Royce with the Real Estate Bloggers and thanks for watching.

Big Tom!
Delivering the video… you da man!
All you need now is your Real Estate Bloggers logo for a backdrop and you’re there!
Comment by Greg Swann on 22 May 2007:
Wow. Very impressive. The audio under with other images over is something I want and don’t have right now, so it’s time to go play. Thanks!
Comment by Rich Hodge on 22 May 2007:
Well done!
Greg - Tom used a microphone - so the audio is separate. For me the audio and video are from the camera and I haven’t figured out how to separate them yet (guessing - I’m still just learning Windows Movie Maker). It sure looks smooth the way Tom did it - good stuff!

Hello from Western Australia where the rea estate market is flying!!!
I enjoyed the introduction to this program.
To date my video attempts have been about Archie, a dog who could not get his tail up and now can.
The next was about Malcolm who took a dive off a motor cycle, crushed a vertebra and still came back to be a motor cycle champion.
The current one is about non-cardiac chest pain.
Tom you never know how far reaching some thing you think, say or do may be long after you thought it, said it or did it.
Best wishes,
Michael
