That is a bit of hyperbole, but to many residents in the California town of Mountain View, California it does feel like Google is taking property share in the same way that it is taking search share from Yahoo. Working with the city of Mountain View to purchase another 310,000 square feet of office space.
Add that to rumors that Google is trying to acquire another million square feet of space at Moffett Field in the Nasa Ames Research Center, the growth does not look to slow down. And when you are adding on average 17 employees a day, you will continue to need space.
Google, which already occupies 900,000 square feet on top of city-owned land, will use a portion of nearby office space to house research and development facilities, according to Mountain View’s newly-passed 2007-08 budget.
The city-owned 18.6 acres where Shoreline Amphitheater concertgoers once parked their cars will be split in half, with 9.2 acres going to Google and the other portion designated for a yet-to-be named hotel and conference center, said Ellis Burns, the city’s economic development director. via the Palo Alto Daily News
