Indy is my hometown and I love it, but the reason I left more than 20 years ago was rhe lack of employment opportunities along with the harsh winters. All the other locations mentioned in this article have exactly the same 2 issues. Now I’m about to retire and I think I’m coming back home! Winters have become less intense, housing is a GREAT bargain and employment will be a non-issue. When winter gets too nasty, I’ll rent an RV and hit the road.

I’m surprised that there weren’t any cities in Arkansas on the list. Every Realtor I talk to across the state mention what a bargain buyers from other areas say that they feel they are getting in our market. I showed 5 homes today in Fort Smith, AR that all had over 2,000 sf for less than $160,000 with 4 bedrooms!

Well, if I could add a top 10 affordable places to live in California - I would add Visalia (Tulare County). We are still relatively affordable in comparison to other places in California.

Damn straight. I live in IN (Lafayette area), and Carmel is a steal. Not only that, but all of Northern Indy, Carmel, and Noblesville is growing ridiculously fast. Tons of new business and housing, as well as higher class people. I’d live there in a second.
I wouldn’t live in Kokomo, though. It’s squalorous and the lights on the main drag have horrific timing. I’m talking 20 minutes to travel 4.8 miles (I timed it). I don’t care how cheap it is, it’s still a hole.
