Baltimore Ground Rents Holder Race to Seize Homes Before New Law Stops Practice

The long history of ground rents in the city of Baltimore is coming to a close. Legistlation by the State of Maryland’s General Assembly abolished the use of ejectment if ground rents were not paid. But this did not stop the investors that had bought up the ground rent rights from going on a ejectment lawsuit rampage before the new law went into effect.

The new laws did not take effect until July 1, however. Realtors, Law Center officials and others said they grew interested in helping homeowners after learning that 154 ejectment lawsuits were filed in Baltimore Circuit Court on the last business day before the law changed. About 300 suits — more than were filed in many full years –were filed in June, bringing the number of active cases in Circuit Court to about 775. via the baltimoresun.com

Let’s be honest here, these are a group of people who found a loophole in an archiac system to sieze others properties. These are not people who are looking to create something to benefit society but instead are preying on the weak and uninformed. If I had lived in Baltimore I never would have know about owing ground rent payments if I was not explicity told, which many of the homeowners have not been.

To have politically connected folks who are evicting people who never knew that they owed what in essense is a couple of hundred dollars to lose their homes is criminal. The General Assembly knows this and changed the law. But the scum sucking vermon want their pound of flesh and will get it anyway they can.
