New Home Source Working Together With Yahoo! Real Estate

New Home Source, the website that contains listings from a consortium of most of the top 38 homebuilders in the country, is joining forces with Yahoo! Real Estate to provide better exposure to it’s listings. While this is a logical move, why did it take these boys so long to have this partnership come about.
The home builders are in deep trouble. They knew that they were heading for deep trouble over a year ago and should have been forging every possible path that could help get exposure to their listings and products. Add to the fact that online is the way that homes get marketed these days, this should have been a no brainer and done with every online listing service out there.
But if these guys were so smart, they probably would have given up their newspaper marketing a year ago too.
Communities listed on NewHomeSource will automatically be displayed in the featured listings placements on Yahoo! Real Estate. “By combining the extensive new home community data found within NewHomeSource.com with Yahoo! Real Estate’s user interface and reach, we are providing consumers with an easy and effective method to find the new home of their dreams,” said Tim Costello, CEO of Builder Homesite.
“New homes continue to be an attractive option for many home buyers,” said Michael Yang, vice president and general manager of Yahoo! Real Estate. “In teaming with BHI, one of the strongest players in the new home market, we can ensure our users have access to the largest selection of new homes being constructed across the country.” via EarthTimes

You’re very anti newspaper, but provide no logical reason for it. Why do you feel the way you do?

I am not anti newspaper, I grew up reading 2 every day (Newsday and the New York Times). But I also recognize that their day has passed and that there is a whole generation in the work force that will never buy another newspaper again.
When that occurs it is crazy to play ostrich. You have to address the change in landscape and plan accordingly.
For the real estate agents that have spent marketing dollars knowing that they will be wasted on newspaper marketing to satisfy their clients I have pity. The rules of the game have changed and the sooner that the players in the real estate world adjust, the sooner that marketing of homes will be more efficient.
I do not hate newspapers, but for me to let my personal feelings keep from stating the truth of the marketplace is crazy.

Technology is moving faster than reality.. so, why not keep up? Using the Internet to market homebuilder listings is far more of an advantage, and less hassle. For those interested in buying brand new homes or condos before they hit the market, we offer the largest coming soon and just released new home resource for locating and purchasing a new home or condo the moment it’s released for sale.

has anyone heard of a scam where a apt is listed for just below market and the apt owner wants money sent out of the country to her… you know since her dead american hubby left her running the place.

Considering the cost difference between advertising in newspapers and online it is amazing how slow the homebuilders were as a group to embrace the Internet. The Yahoo deal was a no brainer for both parties.
