Imagine buying a multi-million dollar home on the beach in Malibu. Then you find out next door is a home being rented to Polaroid who is using it to host over 20 celebrity parties that last through the night. Paparazzi, valets, and illegally parked cars are everywhere and the noise is constant. Whats worse, every Paris and Lindsay wanna-be (and the real things) are in the mix, Lindsay Lohan actually had her birthday there and Restoration Hardware and Dermalogical were the sponsors.
This is the reality of Malibu beach as corporate party homes are the rage and neighbors are imploring the city to do something about it. The problem is the homes are rented on a short term basis and to ban parties would inhibit the other owners from entertaining on a more modest basis or ban the weddings and social gatherings that they want. There is a fine line that got crossed and trying to regain the balance will be difficult for the city of Malibu, the residents, and those looking to create corporate value.’
“We’ve had 26 parties at the house next to us. About half of them have been major, major parties with hundreds of people,” said resident Renny Shapiro. “We had to cancel any activities we planned for the summer.”
Shapiro lives on Malibu Beach, next to what is known internationally as the Polaroid Beach House. A few houses the other direction is the LG Beach House. Nearby Carbon Beach has been home this summer to the Silver Spoon Beach House.
The companies rented the mansions from their owners and are using them to promote products by linking them to hot young celebrities. And the celebs seem more than happy to indulge themselves with food, drink and gifts — and indulge paparazzi by showing off their tans and bikinis on the beach. via Seattle Times Newspaper.
