Student housing is still a bright spot in the housing market. It seems every high school student is giving college a go and the universities are growing to meet the demand. The one place they can not meet the demand is providing on campus housing as the cost is too high. This is providing a great opportunity to landlords willing to step into the college housing market.
In Michigan they are building two twenty plus story units that will eventually house nearly 2,000 students. The project, University Village, will support the University of Michigan students in Ann Arbor and be close to the campus.
Developers are moving ahead early this year on University Village, a much-anticipated 726,000-square-foot student-housing high rise project on the edge of downtown Ann Arbor.
Developers Dan Ketelaar and Ron Hughes submitted plans to the city Wednesday morning for a two-building project at the southeast corner of South University and South Forest.
It would include 524 student apartments with 1,758 beds.
The main floor would have 16,000 square feet of retail space. The U-shaped structures would be connected, with one rising 26 stories and the other 21. MLive.com.
