It is amazing how one company can dominate the commercial real estate in a town like Apple is with Cupertino, California. The former mayor can not even find 3,000 square feet of space for his business as the success of the Ipod and the Iphone has Apple gobbling up all of the commercial space in town.
Large-scale expansion of Apple Inc.’s work force and a city-imposed limit on the amount of office space that the town will support are combining to choke expansion opportunity for other workplace property owners and businesses in the city of Cupertino.
Blockbuster performance of its iPod and iPhone and renewed consumer interest in its personal computers have propelled Apple to record-breaking sales growth over the last several years. One consequence of that growth has been steady and strong expansion outside of its signature Cupertino headquarters.
Beyond its six-building headquarters campus, which rises aside U.S. Interstate 280 at Cupertino’s De Anza Boulevard exit, Apple has city business licenses to operate from another 25 buildings encompassing 1.1 million square feet. Some of the buildings are clustered around the campus; others are farther afield. via the San Jose Business Journal
