Lowest Foreclosure StatesThe states with the lowest foreclosure rate are an interesting group. RealtyTrac tells us they range from upper Northeast states such as Vermont and Maine to vacation destination Hawaii, Midwest outposts North and South Dakota to to Southern states such as Mississippi and Alabama.

What they do share in common was that they were not the destination of the speculators in the marketplace during the run up of the early part of the century. It does make me think that the majority of the foreclosures are not a result of national economic issues but more so that some markets got too hot and now they are coming back with some getting hurt.

That is not a national crisis, but instead a market that is coming to grips with it’s over indulgence. And the actions of Washington during an election year will make a much larger mess than would have occurred naturally.

  1. Surprised Hawaii is low, I always believed this state hosted a lot of 2nd home owners. Maybe our falling $$ has made this a wise choice to those with foreign money.

  2. We all new that the good times couldn’t last forever! From this map, it’s obvious that over speculation by un-experienced investors caused the majority of our nations housing problems!

Not too many investors were rushing out to buy a house in North Dakota!
