Commmuting Pain Index - Los Angeles and Atlanta Lead The Way
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
If you are looking to save your sanity and pocket book, or if you really hate traffic, here are the cities to stay away from.
These cities share a high level of traffic combined with a spread out workforce. Long commutes are the norm and it is wearing on those who live there.
IBM commissioned the study to determine the pain index as they are launching new traffic products. Think of the study as linkbait for municipalities.
Here are the Top 10 Worst Cities For Commuting Pain:
- Los Angeles – 9.6
- Atlanta – 7.3
- Miami – 6.0
- Dallas Fort Worth – 4.8
- Chicago – 4.2
- San Francisco – 4.2
- New York – 3.1
- Washington DC – 2.8
- Boston – 2.3
- Minneapolis – St Paul – 1.4
I am working on another post that is exploring how real estate agents can benefit from these statistics.

Wow! And that’s before closing eight lanes of traffic on the connector this weekend.

No kidding Kathy, I have to go to the Northside the next 3 weekends and am not looking forward to it. 285 here I come!

Tommy,
Add me to the pain list as I just spent 3 days in LA for the BEA Book Convention. Without a doubt it is the worst traffic in America.
The 405, 101, 110, 10 and every other feeder road look like Monday morning traffic jams on Sat and Sundays. Our Friday commute from Marina Del Rey to the LA Convention Center, a 15 mile trip, took 50 minutes!
Very ugly too was the driving habits. No “Little Waves” from people when they cut in, hard “freeway shooting” stares from many, and far too many tinted windows for my comfort.
Next time down, I am bringin my 9 and a Poncho Villa double belt just in case.

Makes me glad the most I typically drive to work is getting onto the information superhighway.
