Basic Seach Engine Optimization Advice

Matt Cutts is featured in an article in USA Today on search engine optimization. The article is noteworthy because it takes this geeky term SEO and gives some very basic but important steps that the average real estate agent can understand.

We who work online all the time often forget that some of this stuff is complicated. Just like real estate agents forget that some of the terms and systems in selling a house are confusing for sellers and buyers.

So I figured this is a great place to start if you keep being told that you need to SEO your website but do not have a clue what that means. And do not feel bad, that includes most real estate agents.

1. Spotlight your search term on the page.

“Think about what people are going to type in to try and find you,” Cutts says. He tells of meeting a chiropractor from San Diego who complained that his site couldn’t be found easily using Google search. The words “San Diego chiropractor” were listed nowhere on his site. “You have to make sure the keywords are on the page,” Cutts says. If you’re a San Diego doctor, Des Moines architect or Portland ad agency, best to let people know so immediately, at the top of your page.

2. Fill in your “tags.”

3. Get other sites to “link” back to you.

4. Create a blog and post often.

  1. Your right I think people should also consider when writing an article for an SEO their audience. If there audience is SEO professionals its ok to be technical but if its for an average audience or thos who have less knowledge in SEO you should use terms that an average internet users can understand.
