Michigan Man Shoots Real Estate Agent Over Property Deal

The tough Michigan real estate market took a turn for the worse yesterday. A man meeting with his Roosevelt Park real estate agent, names have not been released yet, shot the agent in the head over bad feelings on a real estate deal.

Guys and Gals, one thing that we all sometimes forget is that a persons real estate asset typically is their biggest asset. We all talk about this in a sales cycle and then promptly forget about it during negotiations and discussions.

When the market turns south and people lose everything they have they tend to be very volatile. I am not sure what to recommend, but I will say this. Be as sensitive to the concerns and emotions of your clients as you can be.

You may also have a great deal on your plate, but the customer is not used to real estate transactions and the stress they can create. Any empathy you can provide may take the pressure off your client and avoid the tragedy we have seen today in Michigan.

Roosevelt Park police Chief Bill Wiebenga would not reveal the identities of the victim and the accused shooter, other than to say they both are men.

The shooting happened around 8:45 a.m. at NEXES Realty Inc. in Roosevelt Park, a community just south of Muskegon.

Wiebenga said the suspected gunman was talking with the NEXES agent in the office when an employee heard a popping sound.

The suspect left the building and drove away. Police later arrested him in nearby Norton Shores after receiving a telephone tip. via The Battle Creek Enquirer
