Banging_head_against_wallLuke Mullins has an article over at US News and World Report titled 6 Signs of a Crummy Real Estate Agent.

Do any of these indicators make you squirm? And if so, what can you do today to start fixing the problem?

  1. Out of pocket. Just as in a marriage, communication is a key component of the relationship between a homeowner and an agent.
  2. No advice. Let’s face it; even homeowners who have been through several real estate transactions can benefit from a little advice from their agent.
  3. Insists on affiliates. Real estate agents who insist on clients’ using a particular lender or affiliated company for the transaction should also trigger alarm bells.
  4. Part-time gig. Just because a real estate agent has a license doesn’t mean it’s his or her full-time job.
  5. Keeps it in the family. A real estate agent who shows buyers only properties that are listed with his or her brokerage could be subordinating the client’s best interests.
  6. Behavior problems. Every real estate agent is licensed by the state in which he or she practices. State agencies, meanwhile, keep the records of all disciplinary actions taken against their agents.

None of us are perfect, but recognizing how we can improve on our weaknesses tends to separate the winners from the losers. In this tough real estate market fixing ones weaknesses should be job number 1 to avoid being a crummy real estate agent.

  1. Good advice. It can be a tricky game when dealing with some agents. Fortuntaely there are some good ones out there but do your research before signing on for the next 6 months.

  2. Here’s a typical REALTOR taking advice from a former waitress from the Buttercup Bakery now a Financial guru…

10 years as a ‘professional’ giving/charging people for her wisdom on the biggest purchase of their lives, her own home: 0% down, 2 toxic mortgages and a third 9no equity to borrow)toxic mortgage to install a poll. Single mother with not1, 2 but 3 children!

    Who needs a REALTOR? Seriously.

Kick them to the curb abd let it rain on them.

  3. Indeed, it is but appropriate that real estate agents know how to act right if they aim to make it big in the business. The right attitude and practices can help them make a long long way in the real estate business.
