Marquette University Announces Center for Real Estate

I am a huge fan of the formalization of education for the real estate industry, so when new schools focusing on real estate open I am thrilled and a little biased. With that disclaimer it is great to see Marquette University open up a Center for Real Estate in their Business School.

The real estate industry has had very little analysis done on it compared to it’s impact on the country. And while much academic discourse in my opinion is blather, there is much that comes out of the university system that helps commerce. Put another way, if the computer industry did not have an academic component, computers would come with a pad and pencil.

For those of us who are information junkies these think tanks will help analyze the data that forms real estate trends while training the future leaders of the real estate profession. That is a win win.

The new center would be directed by Mark Eppli, Bell Chair in Real Estate. In a press release, Eppli said the Center for Real Estate’s services will include site visits, job shadowing and mentoring, and applied classroom assignments. An MBA specialization is planned for the future. The center will also house Associates in Commercial Real Estate (ACRE) program, which educates, trains and prepares minorities for careers in commercial real estate throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

“We will focus on applied empirical research in both commercial and residential real estate,” Eppli said. “In doing so we will engage the real estate community and provide continuation of outreach efforts.” via  The Business Journal of Milwaukee:.
