Chicago and Cook County Sheriff Will Not Enforce Foreclosures

Fire-tomdartAsk any cop who makes an arrest and they will tell you they don’t make the laws, they just enforce them. Except when it comes to the Cook County Sheriff.

Tom Dart, the Sheriff, says he will not carry out evictions in cases of foreclosures. Not that a court has to approve the eviction and that the new owner of the property has rights. That means nothing to the Sheriff.

Nope, he has taken the role of judge and jury and will enforce the law as he see’s fit.

Residents of foreclosed properties in Chicago and other parts of Cook County don’t have to worry about deputies forcing them out. Sheriff Tom Dart says that starting Thursday his office won’t take part in evictions.
Dart says he’s concerned that many of the people being evicted are renters who were unaware that their landlords have been failing to pay their mortgages. He says his deputies have no way of knowing whether they’re removing someone who has defaulted on a loan or someone who has been faithfully paying rent. via My Way News

If you ask me Sheriff Tom Dart should be relieved of his job. His is not the role of making judgments, it is to enforce those judgments. If he wants that power and decision making, run for a judicial office.

Otherwise, do your job Sheriff Tom Dart!
