Wow!

I just ran across an image from the Google sponsored satellite being run by GeoEye. The quality is truly amazing. The picture below is one of the first taken by the high quality camera and will be offered with detail down to 20 inches.

Geo-eye

This is not shabby for use for real estate professionals across the country when the images start rolling into Google Maps.

GeoEye says this image of Kutztown University, Pennsylvania, is the first image taken by GeoEye-1. It was collected on October 7, 2008, from 423 miles in space as their satellite moved down the eastern seaboard of the United States.

The Geo-Eye1 is described as the world’s highest-resolution commercial satellite. GeoEye spokesperson Mark Brender tells Wired.com that the satellite can take photos at a resolution of up to 41 centimeters — close enough to zoom in on the home plate of a baseball diamond. Due to federal law, though, Google will “only” get images that have a 50-centimeter resolution — meaning the imagery will capture details down to about 20 inches.  via Search Engine Land

  1. If this what is offered for commercial use, I can only imagine what the government is looking at.

  2. That is amazing! Our clients love using Google Maps new feature that allows them to virtually walk down the street and check out a neighborhood too.

  3. Now thats an awesome image! Technology is simply becoming amazing!

  4. This is great help for working with clients out of town that are trying to get a feel of the neighborhoods. I have been going back in forth between google maps and msn maps with clarity. Lately MSN has been the best. I look forward to seeing what this latest version via Google will be like.

  5. Wow. Ridiculous resolution. The last version was impressive and this is just getting scary. Since this supposedly allows you to zoom in to 20 inches, I wonder how many people are going to be up in arms again about being included in these pictures, just like the street view.
