Where are the Marketers Going, And Where Should You?
In the past you placed your home ads in the local paper and the home magazines and waited for the phone to ring, but marketing real estate today has many new challenges. The old ways are faltering and the new ways are so varied it can be intimidating.
I would love to say I have the answer, but alas I do not. What I can do is show you where the marketing folks are going according to a survey I found at Marketing Sherpa.
People are racing away from old media, newspapers, radio, television, and even even direct mail. Where people are adding to is Web 2.0 social marketing, emailing to personal lists, and paid search.
Is there a perfect answer for real estate agents to the marketing question. Nope.
But one thing is for sure, the professionals are leaving the old marketing mix alone, even the Super Bowl can not sell it’s advertising. So keep your eyes open, try new things, and master the ones that work.

How would you define/describe “emailing to house list”?
From the link: “house email… has proven… well-documented ROI.”

This would be a list you compiled yourself from your site. The alternative is a bought mailing list which while effective in the past is less and less likely to bring results.
There are many ways that people build a list, I am looking into a new Real Estate Bloggers Newsletter to help build one.

It is interesting to see this laid out with some actual numbers. To me it is hard to see how many agents still are into the print advertising as their #1 go to item on the list of marketing a property. With a slower 2009 staring most everyone in the face, I think all of this will change even more.

I am an exclusive Buyers Agent have a list of about 400 people. 150 or so are past clients and the rest are people that have contacted me regarding Portland Oregon Real Estate from out of State. Should my newsletter be different for each group or would they both be interested in knowing what is happening in Portland? I’m getting the impression that I should stay away from market statistics and focus on specific neighborhoods or types of housing?

The slowdown economy has punch down the real estate marketers very badly and in the coming year even this statistics may also get changed. The real estate industry needs a new road map to recovery. The rise of social media and social networks, which opened up new ways of advertising, might help in the recovery. Yet no one knows what will work now and in the future?
Its an interesting post…lets hope for the best.

What a great and comprehensive website. Here in the mountains of WNC, people still cling to Homes & Land, and many agents go along with them. IMHO, if someone wants H&L, they can pay for it and waste their own money. I don’t have enough to waste.
