Single Woman 2nd Largest Demographic of Real Estate Buyers

GenXHey, you all are wondering who you need to aim your marketing at?

Try Single women, they are buying homes. 20 percent of all homes in the recent survey by the National Association of Realtors.

Now I do not know about you, but this stat blew me away. We all seem to target married couples with our marketing, but the needs of a single woman are probably a bit different than a married couple. And if you can target homes that fulfill the needs of the single woman, build marketing campaigns that reach these women, and can relate to the issues they face, you will probably be in a position to sell 1 in 5 homes…

And that is not too shabby.

Sixty-one percent of home buyers are married couples. Single women account for the next largest share of buyers – 20 percent. Ten percent of buyers are single men, 7 percent unmarried couples and 2 percent other. Sixteen percent of recent buyers are non-white, 9 percent were born outside of the United States, and 4 percent primarily speak a language other than English. Real Estate Insights.

  1. This does not surprise me too much. Over the years, I’ve helped many more single women than single men purchase homes. It may be a nesting instinct, or it may just be that single men are waiting for the opinion of a spouse before taking the leap to the commitment of homeownership. Or it could just be that women are smarter than men… something that I’ve believed all along.

  2. The more I think about this and niche marketing, you could really jump start a business aiming at Single woman. An I can not believe it is saturated yet.

  3. I’m not surprised. I’m one of them!

  4. Great article. This is a good fact for anyone to realize. I myself have worked with numerous single woman, but had no idea that it made up such a large percentage of buyers.
