Kansas City Real Estate Legend Allen Block, 93, Passes On – RIP

Allen-BlockThe real estate industry lost another great one this week when Allen Block passed away at the age of 93.

What truly amazes me is that you would think the stresses of running a real estate brokerage would take years off ones life, yet it seems that rarely do you hear of a young real estate broker passing away, they tend to be in their 80s or 90s.

Rest in Peace Allen Block.

Block was founder and chairman of Kansas City’s largest commercial real estate firm, Block & Co. Inc. Realtors, where he was known by all employees as “Mr. Allen.”
Throughout his more than 70 years in the business, Block exhibited a passion for mentoring and educating young brokers. He also was known for old-school values such as trustworthiness, according to his sons, Ken, Michael and Stephen Block, all principals at Block & Co.
“When he gave his word on a deal, it was done,” Michael Block said.
According to Ken Block, his father used to craft deals on restaurant napkins and once took one of the napkins to the bank to get financing. In the 1960s, Ken Block added, his father saw the promise of fast-food restaurants and, along with some partners, became both the franchisee and real estate provider for many of the first Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants to enter the Kansas City market.
