Slash suing Sotheby’s over anemic party pit
Sotheby’s International Realty is in hot water with former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash over a home that they brokered in 2006. The home was not large enough and did not have enough parking for the party’s Slash and his wife wanted to throw.
Now they are on the hook or a million dollars plus punitive damages.
Of course, it is interesting that Sotheby’s would be at fault for not knowing that the home could not handle the parties that Slash was planning on throwing. Did Slash and his wife not view the property? That would be the only way that this situation might have any validity.
At issue is a house that Slash purchased in 2006 and later sold, because it just wasn’t big enough for the kind of parties that he and his wife wanted to throw. The lawsuit, which seeks over a million dollars in damages, says that the real estate agents misrepresented the size of the house and failed to mention that it was located on a street with parking restrictions that further hampered getting a few hundred of the nearest and dearest together. via Prefix Mag
The misrepresentation of the home size in the advertising is obviously an issue and needs to be addressed, but I am not sure how that affects the property value by a million dollars.
And are local parking restrictions something that has to be in a disclosure statement? If that is the case any property in Manhattan, NY would have a 5 page disclosure just for parking issues.

Realtors more often than not just use the square foot living area listed in public records and do not measure the property. Working as an appraiser I see realtors do this all the time.
