How Not To Fight Being Foreclosed Upon

New-Mexico-ForeclosureA new Mexico couple decided that they did not want to be foreclosed upon. In a scene that could have come out of a QuentinTarantino movie, a husband and wife loaded up with guns, ammunition, and homemade bombs and fought off Otero County Sheriff Deputies that initially tried to serve the foreclosure notice.

Then they got into a battle with the New Mexico State Police SWAT team comprised of nearly 100 officers. At the end, the wife was dragged out of the home by the bomb robot and the husband was dead.

We all know that foreclosure is a tough time for everyone involved. But to resort to this level of violence is beyond the pale. We sometimes get so wrapped up in the process that we forget the risks that the people who are handling the foreclosure process undertake.

Tingwall said SWAT officers entered the house.

“The officers came into contact with the woman in the house,” Tingwall said. “The female was wearing a ballistics vest and was unresponsive to officers. She would not show officers her hands.”

He said officers decided to use the robot to grasp her ankle and pull her out of the house.

“Officers pulled her away from where she was lying face down,” Tingwall said. “She had two pistols in her pockets and (was) lying on a shotgun. Police medical members rendered first aid to the woman. Tingwall said she was taken immediately to a hospital.

“Officers located two propane tanks they thought could possibly be an explosive device,” he said. “Doña Ana bomb technicians cleared the house.” Alamogordo Daily News.

  1. Wow, scary the extent people will go to in order to try to stop foreclosure on their home.

  2. I have a bad feeling we will be seeing a lot more episodes like this over the next few years.

  3. Yeah, I work w/ REO’s so that’s a little scary. Hopefully I don’t run into any psycho’s like this! We did a “cash for keys” (the home owner cleans the foreclosed home spotless in exchange for a $500-$1000 check from the bank) one day and my partner had his hand on his phone getting ready to dial 911 b/c he thought the dude was on meth. The dude calmed down & it all worked out, but that’s as close as I have come to a hostile situation.
