Homeless Groups Organizing Squatters To Take Foreclosures

Yes there are a great deal of foreclosures in the country, but the lawless action of homeless advocacy organizations is breathtaking.

They are now publicly organizing the theft of property by putting homeless families into foreclosed homes. Now do not get me wrong, I do feel for the homeless families and their plight. However, they are now becoming unwitting criminals by these advocacy groups and facing liabilities they could not dream of.

Michael Stoops, executive director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, said about a dozen advocacy groups around the country were actively moving homeless people into vacant homes — some working in secret, others, like Take Back the Land, operating openly.

In addition to squatting, some advocacy groups have organized civil disobedience actions in which borrowers or renters refuse to leave homes after foreclosure.

The groups say that they have sometimes received support from neighbors and that beleaguered police departments have not aggressively gone after squatters.

“We’re seeing sheriffs’ departments who are reluctant to move fast on foreclosures or evictions,” said Bill Faith, director of the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio, which is not engaged in squatting. “They’re up to their eyeballs in this stuff. Everyone’s overwhelmed.”  via msnbc.com.

If I had my way, and I do not, I would take every dollar of government funding from these groups. They are publicly promoting theft by their actions and should not be funded by the public.

  1. For some reason, I dont really know what to think of this. I dont believe that a family should just get a house for free. But then again, I like that much better than the thought of homeless children. Children should have food, water, love, a home, and education without question.

  2. It seems stupid to have a glut of vacant homes AND thousands of homeless families. Criminal or not, if homeless families can become NOT homeless due to the vast numbers of abandoned and vacant homes sitting around the country, then I say, GOOD!

  3. Where is the enforcement of law? They should jail them. Just because it sounds like a good idea, it is theft. All thieves like the word “FREE!”
