For Investment Wealthy Women Prefer Real Estate Over Wealthy Men
If you are looking to sell expensive real estate in today’s market your best bet is not selling to men. A new study shows woman with higher asset levels are much more predisposed to purchasing real estate than their male counterparts.
The does make sense as traditionally women are more predisposed to security. Men tend to love the prestige of owning fancy assets but are more interested in their ability to increase in value and their utility. Women like the stability and the safe haven that real estate provides them. (Of course these are generalities and do not proscribe to all members of either sex, but when you are looking for general rules to live by, it is not far off.)
So when selling real estate to higher income families, sell to the women and you may have a much better chance of success.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the survey relates to gender. Almost half (49%) of the women surveyed consider real estate to be a less risky investment than stocks, compared with 37% of men.
Women also are more likely to enjoy investing in real estate than men: 44% of women surveyed find buying property more enjoyable than investing in other asset classes. Only 28% of men feel the same way. While 34% of men are likely to invest in real estate indirectly through a fund, only 14% of women would prefer this approach.

How about wealthy men who invest in real estate?

I find this very interesting because after reading this article I started thinking about our clients and in most cases the woman is really making the decision. In fact we have two clients we are working with where the wife is actually buying the home without the husband on the loan or offer.

Much like in my experience, with a male/female couple the female is generally the one with the veto vote when it comes to choosing a house. It takes the whole family to decide on a house, but the wife or mother is generally the one to shake her head first.

Males like riskier investments. They’d rather have their money tied up in stocks, options, and junk bonds. Real estate (with the exception of this recession) has traditionally been boring and slow.

I’ll take note of that, and beside men are just following what women needs.
