Top 10 Most Affordable Communities in 3rd Quarter 2006

The National Association of Home Builders has come out with their 3rd Quarter analysis for Housing Opportunity in 2006. This index determines the amount of homes sold in the quarter that are built that the average homebuyer can afford.

The Top 10 Most Affordable Homes for 2006, 3rd Quarter

  1. Bay City, MI  90.0 percent of homes built that are affordable to average buyer
  2. Springfield, OH 89.8 percent
  3. Mansfield, OH 88.7 percent
  4. Lansing-East Lansing, MI 87.8 percent
  5. Lima, OH 87.6 percent
  6. Battle Creek, MI 86.8 percent
  7. Canton-Massillon, OH 86.5 percent
  8. Indianapolis, IN  85.9 percent
  9. Detroit-Livonia-Dearborn, MI  85.5 percent
  10. Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA 85.5 percent

Interesting it looks like the list is dominated by Ohio and Michigan. Those areas might be affordable but with their economy in the toilet its hard to get a job. We have had a few people call to relocate to Austin from Detriot. Regardless of how cheap houses are in Detriot if you cant find a job its going to be hard to afford.
