If the cost of foreclosures are not high enough, banks holding properties in Minneapolis face even more costs for snow removal. If they do not arrange for snow removal on properties they are holding, the city of Minneapolis is happy to provide the service, for a fee.
And that is 300 dollars an hour to remove the snow plus a 103 dollar fine. That has got to hurt the bottom line if you get a few of those in the mailbox.
If a sidewalk stays covered in snow for more than a day, a letter is mailed to the address. If nothing happens, city crews come and do the work. The city of St. Paul charges $160 an hour, while Minneapolis charges $300 an hour—plus a $103 citation.
“We only have limited resources to do the work,” said Minneapolis city spokesman Mike Kennedy.
If there are no homeowners to pay the snow removal costs, it will be forwarded to the bank that owns the foreclosed home. via KSTP.com

We don’t know how it feels to have to pay for snow removal down here in the south. If we see any snow we get excited.

i live in Minneapolis and un-shoveled walkways are treacherous – broke my leg on the snow here a few years ago.
There are blind people, wheelchair-bound people, elderly folks, people pushing babies in strollers, etc, trying to navigate our walkways in Winter here, and it is beyond irresponsible not to have the walks one is responsible for cleared-off right away.
