oooohhhhh i get it, you're blaming Democrats in general for the flailing economy. interesting. i see. so it had nothing to do with deregulation, corporate corruption of our government, 30 years of trickle down economics, unfettered capitalism, uneven free trade, and a tax code that sees the richest among us paying a lower percentage on taxes than the middle and low classes. how interesting. i had thought it wasn't so simple as you put it. gee. we should just hire a bunch of republicans and call it a day. i'll bet those guys know exactly how to right the ship huh? let me guess: lower taxes for corporations and the rich, more money pumped into the pentagon so they can pay more BS contractors, more free trade, more deregulation (especially of wall street) so the all mighty invisible hand can do its marvelous thing, and…..uh……hmmmmm…..what's that other one……oh yeah erase the Paris Hilton Tax, aka the inheritance tax, or as the GOP messaging machine would call it: the death tax. Nice. I like it. After all, who needs to promote the "general welfare" as the constitution calls for right??? I tell ya what: you go live on the libertarian island their making, try out your stupid little ignorant positions, and we'll stay here trying to do something ethical, moral, and well….constitutional. Stupid ass. Ya see, when you paint with a broad brush like that, you make yourself seem ignorant and partisan. We all know that Fannie and Freddie made some mistakes, but you can hardly put the blame of the fallen economy on their lap alone. Why don't you look at the system that created this mess: corporate corrupted gov't which aims to suck the wealth from the middle and lower classes to give it to the uber-rich and multi-national corporations. By blaming Fannie and Freddie you're blatantly ignoring the root cause of the problem and in fact promoting ideas that will exacerbate the problem. What we need is to 1) end the concept of corporate personhood, 2) enact public financing of elections, 3) change the way lobbyists affect our government, and 4) end the revolving door between politics and big business. Then, and only then, will we have THE PEOPLE in the halls of congress and our executive branch. Then and only then, will our congress be able to make decisions for the betterment of our country as opposed to the betterment of their corporate sponsors and/or their own pocketbooks. This isn't a left vs right thing as the media would have you think; this is a corrupt vs not-corrupt thing. Do yourself a favor and take this ridiculously childish cartoon down. You're embarrassing yourself.
Remember one simple fact, when the Bush administration tried to slow down Freddie and Fannie, it was blocked by a Democratically led Congress. Barney Frank was the point man. Simple, concise, logical.
you missed my point Tom. i guess that's what i get for writing a long, angry comment. perhaps you didn't read the whole thing? i did say "we all know Fannie and Freddie make some mistakes…". I acknowledge those errors and don't dispute them. The problem I have with your cartoon is its partisanship. I am not a democrat. I have no party to align myself with. I am unhappy with the Obama administration, but for far different reasons (i assume) than you. I would imagine, based on your articles and clearly pro-corporatist POV, that you feel Obama is ushering in the age of communism (which couldn't be further from the truth), and I sincerely hope I'm wrong in that assumption. However, when you post cartoons that point the finger solely at Fannie and Freddie for the fall of our economy (and the world economy for that matter), then you're clearly being partisan and missing the point. The fall of the US economy is clearly based in over 30 years of corporations creeping ever more into our political system. There is no way around it. Unfortunately that goes for DemocRATs and RepubliCONs alike. Our system is corrupted by big business and its sad really. They control our media (propaganda) and they control our government (oligarchy; corporatocracy, fascism, etc). When you post cartoons such as this one, you are only playing into their hands and that's my point. Yes – Fannie and Freddie need to be cleaned out and restructured, but so does every single section of our gov't because they're all ripe with fraud and corruption…not because gov't is inheritly inept – that's the lie we've been sold since Reagan, which is fulfilled by the corruption and meaningful blundering that occurs by corporate chronies who are appointed into positions they have no experience in. If you want to have an honest discussion, let's have it; but please don't come at me with this "its the democrats fault" BS. We all know that the party who started the corruption was the RepbuliCONs; and we all know that the DemocRATs have quickly followed suit and are quickly gaining ground in the "which party can be more corrupt" power struggle. Peace to you Tom. I hope you find honesty soon and I apologize for my over-the-top and rude comment I posted last week.
It would make more sense if the captions were reversed – the oil derrick or whatever it is should be labeled Freddie and Fannie and the exploding blimp should be the U.S. economy.
Scary but this could really happen if for any reason anyone who is oblige to do what's right will come to a point of rejection and join the non-humanitarian act of the 21st century.
There is penty of blame to go around for everyone, but the one thing we do know is deregulation was the main cause of the Housing/Wall Street melt down and republicans want to go back to that.
The only one really to blame is de-regulation via the House. The whole purpose is to ascertain things stay in place to prevent fraudulant activity from ever occuring
Funny and scary illustration of reality.. In my opinion, its not fair that we blame everything to just one person.. We're just human beings, capable of making mistake. What's important if we learn from every mistake and move on. .
Great publish and blog! I do not have time for you to read every publish right now however i have book-marked it as well as added your Nourishes, then when I've time I'll be to find out more. Please continue the truly amazing work.
This is an Awesome political message, really glad you shared this with us. I think that this was certainly a major part of our economy being disrupted but there are many other contributing factors that is still keeping the U.S. economy in a down trodden state.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in a way, has its boon too. ARM rates have been lessened and it eases the pressure in homeowners. Foreclosures are also reduced and with the low rates, it encourages new home buyers to purchase.
waterfront location guest house, French inspired design are nice Knowing this, only 6% of Americans would actually say that their ideal home size is bigger than 3,200 sqft. The whole purpose is to ascertain things stay in place to prevent fraudulant activity from ever occuring

I'm with you on this one Tom, Fannie and Freddie are definitely a "rough spot" for everyone.
LOL!
It is funny but also kinda scary as it has a sense of reality to it.
