With all the doom and gloom in the real estate market, it is nice to see a bright spot. Actually, it is house in case there is a really, really bright spot. Like a nuclear explosion.
Yep, you guessed right, bomb shelters are in style again. Having a bomb shelter is no longer the domain of the weird looking survivalist in the country. Now normal people who are afraid of the changing times and that such stable countries as Iran and North Korea are getting near having functioning nuclear warheads.
According to this Popular Mechanics article, they are selling like hotcakes in California. And for prices into the 400,000 dollar range, that is a lot of money to be putting into what if scenarios. Of course, it is less than reassuring that local governments are buying them up as fast as they can be made.
The CAT25, Radius’ most popular model, can house up to 25 shelterists for as long as five months. The $320,000 CAT25 comes equipped with filtration systems built to handle nuclear, biological and chemical events, and has about 8 feet of head room. McCarthy says the CAT25 is selling like hot cakes in California, and adds that unnameable government entities are snapping them up as well. “The government is buying up all the shelters,” McCarthy says. “We can’t make enough.” Popular Mechanics.

This bomb shelter posting caught my attention as an interesting read. Have you seen any in PeachTree City? I wanted to let you know that I got to this post from your twitter update which I read from my Iphone using the TwitterFon App. While reading the post, a monster jobs advertisement appeared in upper right which had a job that sounded really interesting to me and based in Atlanta. I clicked on it but the link did not work. I’m not sure if it was an issue with TwitterFon which has an embedded browser or an issue with Safari. I thought it was cool that it not only knew I was in Atlanta but seemed to know the types of jobs I might be interested it – was it luck or targetted adverstising at its best? I have used monster from my iphone so could it have gotten a cookie from there about jobs I’ve searched in the past?

So I completely understand the idea that you would like to live to a ripe old age, but I never really understood the idea of having a bomb shelter that you could live years inside. Honestly, I think I would rather be cooked in the explosion and die instantly rather than go crazy eating canned food underground for years. To each his own I guess, some people may think that to be completely worth it.
